My personal aesthetic draws on the idea of the sub-conscious and how much of my own sub-conscious affects me so deeply. I focus on my own fear of death and what it means to die and leave those you love behind. Beneath the sea is where I associate the world of my sub-conscious. Many dreams and fear of what lies in the sea and the creatures (especially whales) have had a negative presence in my dreams. Organic lines, associated with the ocean, is a major component of my works. I like a relaxed and free atmosphere; nothing too harsh or disrupting. Replication of realistic textures with both simulated and real textures derives from the influence of Michael Zavros and his realistic approach. My technique can be quite precise at times, always wanting to take a similar approach as to Zavros with his quality of line. However, at other times, I like quick sketches with more character in the lines, more energetic. Symbolism in my work is another major component which links to my dreams, experiences and perspective on the idea of death and the things associated with it such as: fading memories, stains, what you leave behind, etc. I always aim to bring something 'else' to my work, something different and unique. Constantly, I am trying to push myself, break boundaries and think of other ideas to add to my work and bring more 'energy' to the piece.
